Our Story – Alecia and Jerod
Thirteen years ago, I (Alecia) made the difficult, yet deeply loving decision to place my son for adoption. As a birth mother, I carry a perspective not everyone shares—the beautiful blend of heartbreak and hope that adoption holds. I chose open adoption because I wanted my son to grow up in a home filled with opportunity, support, and unconditional love—things I couldn’t fully provide at the time. Over the years, I’ve had the joy of watching him play sports, grow, and flourish into the incredible young man he is today. The bond we share is one I cherish, and it has only strengthened my belief in the life-changing power of adoption.
Now, I find myself on the other side of the journey, walking it with my husband, Jerod, as adoptive parents. This experience has brought everything full circle. I carry with me the empathy, respect, and understanding that come from having once been in the shoes of a birth parent. It has shaped the way we view adoption—not just as a path to parenthood, but as a profound connection between families built on love and trust.
We recognized the significance of selecting an adoption agency. From our very first phone call with Graceful Adoptions, we felt an immediate sense of peace. Their kindness, honesty, and genuine care stood out. What could have been an overwhelming process, instead became a journey filled with hope and compassion. We never felt like “clients”—we were treated like family.
Graceful Adoptions even encouraged us to apply for adoption grants to help with expenses. When we were denied the first time, they didn’t let us give up, they encouraged us to try again and even walked alongside us through the application process. Thanks to their support and guidance, we were awarded more than $10,000, which made an incredible difference for our family.
Our path to adoption followed years of infertility, a road that was often painful and uncertain. But now we can see clearly: every step was leading us here. To adoption. To Graceful Adoptions. And most of all, to the family we were meant to have.
